Psychosynthesis counselling

To be heard and understood. To be listened to without judgement and with unconditional positive regard.

Holding space for you

Making sense of what happened

I offer Psychosynthesis counselling to help you make sense of what happened. My counselling sessions are there to hold space for you to talk about and process what's happened. To be heard and understood. To be listened to without judgement and with unconditional positive regard. Experiencing unconditional positive regard in the counselling session can be a much needed corrective emotional experience, which can help alleviate your suffering.

I will sit with you in the dark, giving you hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I specialise in trauma counselling, which I've been doing since 2007, so I am confident that I can hold space for you whilst you explore what happened and understand what needs to be done and where to go from here.

Trauma recovery

Who I work with

I offer both counselling and coaching in the field of trauma recovery. I specialise in helping people heal from childhood trauma as well as processing traumatising events that have happened in adult life. Especially if the trauma has been a result of having personality-disordered people in your life; this is my area of expertise. The pain from loving someone cluster B personality-disordered is unlike any other relationship, which requires a specialist to really understand what you've been through.

i.

Are you suffering after splitting up from your partner and you need help making sense of it all? Perhaps it's been a long time and you are struggling to move on. Maybe you're in a relationship and you feel stuck, not knowing what to do. I can help you make sense of what's going on and where to go from here.

ii.

I help people feel empowered again after experiencing devastating emotional injuries from being in a relationship with someone. Whether it was your ex, a friend, someone at work or a family member, I can help you build confidence, let go of the past and make peace with what happened. It is a process — it doesn't happen overnight — but I'm with you, every step of the way.

iii.

If you find yourself becoming enmeshed in relationships, I can help you become a more independent person, explore why you find yourself in unhealthy codependent relationships and help you make changes so that you find yourself in better, functional and healthy relationships.

From insight to everyday life

The treasure chest

Counselling allows for insights to drop. Which is like a treasure chest that has been washed up onto the shore. The sea is a metaphor for the unconscious and the treasure is the insight that's come from it. But the treasure chest must be pulled onto the land, so that the tide doesn't come and pull the treasure back into the sea again.

That's what can happen with insight; unless we focus on the insights gained and ground them into your everyday life and make it a part of your conscious awareness, the insights will go back into your unconscious again and we forget. This is where coaching is so important — it is a method of making your insights a living reality. Insights and goals about how to live your life are made possible through life coaching.

I appreciated my sessions with Mel because it opened up doors that I never thought were there. I feel I have more control over my future. Mel has been a guiding light through my journey. Mel made the hard part easy and was with me, every step of the way

No. The price is the same for both counselling and coaching — I charge per hour of my time.

No. Some people don't want to talk about the past, as it would re-traumatise them. In coaching we don't talk about the past; we look to the future and how to get there.
